Award of $5,000 to a USA or Canada public health official or department to recognize exceptional contributions in the advancement of recreational water safety. The award recipient will be honored for outstanding work in public health and in the safe use of water in spas, waterparks, and pools through educational, technical, safety, and operational programs.

Candidates for the Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant shall provide a complete and through description of a plan or program currently in development or beginning as early as June 2021. The object of said plan or program can be, for example, to improve the safety and/ or wellness of bathers through classes or pamphlets, or the safety of an aquatic facility by increasing educational signage.

One grant will be awarded as seed funding.

Estimated Size of Grant:

One grant, in the amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000), in United States currency, will be awarded as seed funding.

Term of Contract:

Candidates shall provide a complete and through description of a plan or program currently in development or beginning as early as June 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible candidates:
- Candidates shall be a state or local public health official or a public health department. Individuals will be employed by a state or local public health department.
- Candidates will be citizens of the U.S. or Canada (or if organization, headquartered in U.S. or Canada).

Candidates may be self-nominated or nominated by a third party. Nominations are accepted from PHTA members, a public health official or health department.

Responsibilities of the Winner:
The winner, or a representative on behalf of the winner, is expected to receive the Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant award virtually as part of an online Awards Ceremony at the NEHA 2021 Annual Educational Conference (AEC) & Exhibition, on July 15, 2021.
